On Monday, January 13, 2020, the Ames Choral Society will welcome new members for the second half of its concert season. Cabaret 2020: Dial M for Music, will be presented on March 6 and 7, 2020, at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church. (Note: Change of Location). The Spring Concert, Missa Gaia: Earth Mass, is scheduled for Sunday, April 26 at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church. In May the ACS Summer Chorus begins rehearsals for its June pops and patriotic concert.

Singers interested in joining the Ames Choral Society are asked to contact Director Steve Hoifeldt at 515-232-5545 or through Facebook. Rehearsals are Monday evenings, 7:15-9:15 pm, at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 209 Colorado Ave, Ames.  The community group is composed of 50-60 singers who represent a wide range of ages and occupations. Membership dues support the administration of the Society. Whether the singers are in high school, college, employed in the community or retired, they are all drawn to the enjoyment of community singing and the challenge of perfecting quality choral music.

The Ames Choral Society appreciates the funding it receives from the City of Ames Commission on the Arts (COTA), but it is also reliant on membership dues and donations from the community for its operating costs. It is a member of the Ames Council on the Arts (ACAC). The Choral Society has received grants from the Ames Golden K Kiwanis and the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau to purchase songbooks used at community sing-alongs. Most recently the Society received a grant from the Senior Variety Show to cover music expenses for the Missa Gaia concert.
