Ames Choral Society will be sponsoring its “Messiah Sing Along” on April 15, 2023, 4 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 209 Colorado Avenue in Ames.
The Messiah was written by George Frederick Handel to benefit the sick and needy. Even though he was deeply in debt in his personal affairs, he readily accepted the invitation to compose it. It was first performed in April 1742, for charity, and ever since, this priceless legacy has been performed for the benefit of the less fortunate. In the same spirit, an offering will be taken and the proceeds will be donated to The Bridge Home, formerly known as the Emergency Residence Project.
The sing along of most of Messiah’s famous choruses at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, will last approximately an hour. Instrumentalists are also invited to Play Along. Singers who do not have a Messiah score will be provided one for the Sing Along. Those of all ages and abilities are invited.
